Hi photographer friends!

This may not happen every Friday…or even every other Friday (how non-committal am I sounding right now?), but this Friday is the beginning of a series of posts for tips I’ve learned along the way as a wedding and portrait photographer since 2011.

In my free time (lol), you’ll find me editing, reading photography articles about light, posing or business and watching webinars on editing style or branding. So here’s to sharing some knowledge I’ve gained through education and experience!

*I ran across this article from the former Director of Marketing at Lexar all about memory cards this morning, and I thought I’d pass it along.* It’s entitled “Why you should not delete images on your memory card using your camera” and contains many de-bunked myths!

That’s really all for today, folks! One step at a time. One change at a time, and eventually your photography business will be making huge leaps!

Happy Friday, photographer friends!

Let’s be real….most of these pictures are of Brynlee (my almost-two-year-old niece). I spent the past week with my family at the beach, and although we had two days of rain, it was long overdue and I’m not wanting to leave!!

Sarah (my sister) made GoPro videos all week, so make sure to scroll to the bottom to see some of her pictures.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the beach:

If you’ve never seen D.C. at 5 a.m., I would suggest it. Maybe not for the tiredness you’ll feel, but definitely for the moody blue sky! It was my first time to the capital and although it was a long two days, it was worth it to see some of the nation’s most important sites!

Ohhhhhhh my, a wittle baby!!! Newborn sessions are the sweetest – full of fresh love, tiny feet, stuffed animals and a happy mama and daddy! Nate + Shelby have become good friends of ours recently and we’ve loved getting to hold little Greyson the past couple weeks. I love baby snuggles :)

Nate + Shelby are already rockstar parents. They have fun together, laugh at pooping episodes and love on their little buddy while serving one another. It’s truly a beautiful sight. Introducing: Greyson Ryder Johnson!

Sweet little Lucy is now 11 months old! I took her newborn portraits back in November and it was a calm, sweet session. Lucy endured the extreme humidity at the Botanical Gardens…sweat and tears, but thankfully no blood!

Before the session the Gardens were completely empty… So I let the creative juices flow and captured the light falling on trees, plants and bushes. I love being in nature, and I love photographing sweet familes! Much love to the Mobleys.

A few weeks ago my boyfriend’s brother got married…..in COLORADO. It was a refreshing trip full of celebration, sweet people and incredible views. I took my camera along (because it’s attached to my hand on trips!) and had the joy of capturing some sweet family moments.

Here are just a few of the scenes we saw in the Breckenridge area. What fun!

Lauren and I have been roommates for the past two years, and we actually just finished our time at the beloved Stable this past weekend! I had the honour of capturing their engagement session a couple weeks ago and am SO excited to document their wedding in November!

Lauren works at Avondale Elementary as a teacher, so Avondale Park was the perfect setting for their engagement session. A tender love between them + a rainy day = quite the adventure, but we made it work and it turned out beautifully! Here’s to you, future Carricks!

To help make people feel beautiful, capture light and hang out in parks? Are you kidding, this is actually a job? I am so thankful I get to do exactly those things. I was giddy editing these – the perfect light streaming in, the bokeh forming in the background, Anna Grace’s piercingly beautiful eyes. I’ll let you check out the rest…

My baby sister graduated last Friday! I still can’t believe it. She was such a cute baby, cheeky toddler, hilarious tween and now gentle and kind 17-year-old (with the occassional line that is 100% quotable). Sarah is off to college in August, and we’re so proud of her. I’m surprised she didn’t have back issues with all of these medals! Congratulations, Sarah Kins!

I’ll admit, going into this photoshoot I was a little nervous. “Four boys,” I thought….what am I going to do with them? Are they even going to be fun?

The question was answered right when I met them. THEY ARE SO FUN! I was happily surprised with how sweet these boys are too each other and to their parents. They obliged me by running all over, making goofy faces and playing up at the park.

This family is so cool, and I hope these pictures inspire you to love your family better today.
