Valuable

I’ve been re-assessing my value of late. God has drawn to my attention multiple situations in my life in which I de-value myself.

I’ve always thought, “Oh yeah, I’m a pastor’s kid. I never believe Satan’s lies; I’ve read those books. I’m aware that God purchased me by His blood because He deemed me worthy. I’m good.” I’ve tended to avoid the “you’re beautiful” books because I’ve heard it so many times. You get what I’m saying.

But no no, I casually walked through these situations time and again and convinced myself that I had to just keep trying, just keep putting my heart out there, just keep “persevering.” Striving for acceptance is not persevering, friend.

At Shades Mountain Baptist this past Wednesday, our University Minister walked through the first few verses of James. He questioned, “How do you discern whether it’s 1) time to let go or 2) there is an opportunity to be made more holy?”

I think it is both for me. I want to be made more holy. I have needed to let go for a while and want re-discover my godly beauty–beauty that really comes from within. A mouth that overflows with Scripture that has been committed to heart. A smile that exudes the joy of God’s salvation. A work ethic that reflects my confidence in God’s will for my life. Hands that offer humble service like my Saviour’s.

Friend, you are a jewel. For your heart’s sake, guard it! King Jesus is enthralled by your beauty. Not just your inward beauty, but your outward!

“The King is enthralled with your beauty. Honour Him, for He is your Lord” — Psalm 45:11

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment…instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” — 1 Peter 3:3,4

So, ladies, search through Scripture today. Commit your beauty to God. Honour Him with it. You do not need anybody’s confirmation beside the Lord’s.
